The portait of the folk singer Frank «Tønes» Tønnesen, directed by André Løyning and Kristian Lanmark will have the honour of closing the 47th Norwegian International Film festival, on Thursday August 22nd.
– We are thrilled to announce that our closing film will be Tønes, says Festival and Programme director Tonje Hardersen.
Director André Løyning eagerly awaits the premiere:
– Tønes is a beloved and great artist, with powerful lyrics about being human in this weird, but beautiful country in the north. Our film is aiming to capture this and his personality. I hope and believe that people from the region of Rogaland will show up to celebrate one of the most important yet also relatively unknown artist.
Løyning will bring co-director Kristian Landmark, and of course Tønes himself to the gala premiere in Haugesund.
About the film
In 2018, Tønes celebrated 25 years as an artist. Since his first concert at Grubeheimen in Sokndal, the former electricianfrom Hauge I Dalane has become one of our greatest and most important artist. Tønes has receiced “Prøysenprisen”, “Dialektprisen”, several Spellemann-awards, and he has been nominated for the Nordic Music Award.
Journalist and film director André Løyning has followed Tønes for both small and great events throughout the jubilee year to better get to know him. This has resulted in a portrating of a folk singer that stayed in him small hometown, but continued to write songs that touches us all.
Landmark and Løyning have previously made the the documentary Cocks & Crosses, that also premiered at the Norwegian International Film Festival in 2016.
