The Amanda Awards back on NRK

10. March 2020

NRK and the Norwegian International Film Festival in Haugesund will collaborate on this year’s Amanda Awards.

It is the first time since 2005 that NRK and the film festival collaborates on the award ceremony. The radio channel NRK P2 will be responsible for the broadcast of this year’s award ceremony, which will broadcast on both NRK P2 and TV channel NRK2.

– NRK wants to give the audience both the Amanda Awards and journalism about new, Norwegian films and film industry. That is why I welcome this new cooperation. We will give the film-interested audience the award show in a new way both on radio and TV, says channel manager in NRK P2, Ole Jan Larsen.

This year’s Amanda Awards will be taking place on August 14 in Haugesund.

Panel comments on the award
– NRK will make a live broadcast on NRK P2, a broadcast that can also be viewed by the public on NRK2. The show itself will be part of NRK’s broadcast. The main element of the broadcast will be a studio with a panel commenting on what is happening during the award ceremony. In this way, we will both follow the show directly from Haugesund and get backgrounds and assessments of candidates and winners, says NRK’s cultural editor, Marius Hoel.

Tonje Hardersen, director of the Norwegian International Film Festival and chair of the Amanda Committee is thrilled that Amanda is now returning to NRK in a completely new form.

– We have great faith that NRK’s broadcast will be well received by a movie-interested audience. Today’s audience uses media in a completely different way than before, so innovation in how to present the Amanda Awards to the public has been absolutely essential for us. We think that the concept that is being developed is extremely exciting and look forward to work with NRK. The audience’s interest in Norwegian film is great, and we believe NRK’s commitment will promote and celebrate Norwegian films in an excellent way, says Hardersen.

In the time before the Amanda Award, NRK P2’s current cultural programs will focus on new Norwegian films. The host of NRK’s broadcast will be announced later.
