Zola is a hilarious, acid-tripping film, inspired by a viral Twitter thread from 2015. Yes, you read that right. A long wall of Twitter messages, written by Aziah “Zola” King, have been adapted for the big screen. The waitress and stripper Zola (Taylor Paige) works in Detroit and befriends the client Stefani (Riley Keough), who seduces her into joining a party in Florida. Zola hears that they can make big bucks there. She joins Stefani and her insidious group of friends. The trip is filled with, unexpected experiences (to put it mildly). The film is trashy, entertaining, chaotic, charming, stylistic and crazy, with a soul that has its feet planted in modern internet culture.
