Winner, The Audience Award – Young and Afraid

Young and Afraid is a raw and unadorned film about young people fighting their demons. In the autumn of 2017, Petter (24) is standing on top of a bridge and is about to end his life, but he is stopped by the police at the last minute. This will be the start of a therapeutic journey with best friend and co-director Sverre. Equipped with a film camera, they search the streets of Oslo and get to befriend people. People with mental health problems are both in front of and behind the camera, which creates a reciprocity between the filmmakers and their subjects. They want to shed light on how other troubled people are coping with the problems. They encounter both drug addicts and transsexuals. This will bring light into Petter’s dark mind. By aiming to understand their destructive patterns, Petter becomes aware of his own.
