The Birdcatcher’s Son

This Faroese drama unfolds at the end of the 19th century and is built on a legend about the bird catcher Esmar (excellently portrayed by Danish actor Rudi Køhnke). Esmar and his wife Johanna lives a simple, but good life with their three daughters on a small patch of land, but is threatened by the faroese law dictating that their lease only can be inherited from father to son. To protect his livelihood and his family from the dubious landowner Såmal, Esmar is forced to accept an arrangement that may pose wide implications and affect many of his nearest and dearest – but perhaps not quite in the way he imagined.
