An intense psychological drama partly inspired by the life of Shirley Jackson, one of the most important horror writers of all time. Shirley is in the middle of the writing process of her great masterpiece “Hangsaman” when a young, newlywed couple moves in with her and her husband Stanley. The arrival of the new guests does not coincide with Shirley’s strict routines, and it doesn’t help that there is already a toxic relationship between Shirley and Stanley. Shirley consists of disorienting photography, eerie atmosphere, and a claustrophobic mood in the narrow walls of the house. Eventually, it is no longer clear to either the characters or the audience what is real and what is not.
