Petite Maman

Following the masterpiece Portrait of a Woman on Fire, director Céline Sciamma moves to another vulnerable theme. Eight-year-old Nelly has just lost her beloved grandmother and is helping her parents clean her mother’s childhood home. She explores the house and the surrounding forest area. Marion, her mother, used to play there and build the wooden house Nelly has heard so much about. The mother disappears and then Nelly meets a girl at her age in the woods, who is building a wooden house. Sciamma wraps a lot of emotions in the short runtime. This is a genuine reflection on childhood and the relationship with a mother.
