Only the Animals

Only the Animals is a non-linear mystery thriller, where we follow five characters on two continents. All five play their part in the murder of a woman, but it is not immediately clear which one. Like films as Memento, Pulp Fiction and Crash, all the pieces and characters are sewn together into a quirky and impressive patchwork.

For the most part, the film takes place in cold, wintry southern France, but opens with a young black man riding a motorcycle through a dusty African village, with a goat over his shoulder. To describe the film further will only ruin the experience, but at the bottom of the film lies a brutal and masterful portrayal of human loneliness, and how far into the escape of reality and desperation one can be driven by love or lack thereof.
