Nordic Council Film Prize: Danish nominee – Flee

Amin has everything. A great education, success and the love of his life. But when his boyfriend, Kasper, proposes he is overcome with anxiety. For not even Kasper knows Amin’s secret. And for Amin to live the life he wants, the secret needs to be told. He has to confront his past.

This journey takes Amin back to a happy childhood in 80’s Kabul with a-ha and posters of 80’s actionheros. And a vicious civil war, changing a picturesque childhood into a nightmare. At 11 Amin flees Afghanistan with his family, but five years later he arrives in Denmark all alone.

Flee is a beautiful documentary using animation to paint a moving picture of Amin’s story. The film premiered at Sundance, where it also won the Grand Jury Prize in the World Cinema Documentary category.
