Nordic Council Film Prize: Norwegian nominee – Gunda

Poetic images and rich sound design characterize this unique documentary that has charmed critics both in and outside the Scandinavia. We travel with the atmospheric pictures to a farm in Vestfold and meet the pig Gunda. We get to know her, her newborn piglets, some cows, chickens and the rest of the herd – without a classic BBC narrator voice or dialogue.

It is a work with an animalistic perspective in which camera movements at eye level shows us the farm as a separate world full of surprises. There is no suspense music or colors. Everything is an observation where we see life as a “fly on the wall” (or in this case: “the pig on the farm”). The result is a beautiful and moving film, which gives us room to meditate.
