Gagarine

16-year-old Yuri lives in the Gagarine building (Cité Gagarine) on the outskirts of Paris – a classic “Soviet Bloc” residential complex to be demolished. This is a real building that was set up during the communist period and started the demolition process in 2019. The film deals with Yuri’s feelings for his old home. He therefore joins a demonstration group when he hears about the demolition plans. Together with friends Diana and Houssam, they begin various projects in an attempt to prevent the destruction of what Yuri considers his “spaceship”. After all, the film draws parallels to the name behind the Gagarine building: the cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin. This movie is an introspective and dreamy flight in its narrative form and use of images.
