Occupied 2 and Norsemen 2 will premiere during the Norwegian International Film Festival in Haugesund. This will mark the start of the festival’s new TV drama effort.
Festival and Programme Director Tonje Hardersen is very happy to screen the follow-ups to the two popular series Occupied and Norsemen in Haugesund:
– Norwegian TV series are doing well both at home and abroad. In addition to Norway’s excellent movie theatre scene, they have become an import part of the film landscape.
21 August will see the premiere of the first two episodes of Occupied 2. Director Erik Skjoldbjærg will be present at the premiere, together with actors Henrik Mestad, Janne Heltberg and Eldar Skar.
– I’m very happy to be invited to Haugesund. There is no better place to meet the press and industry during late summer, director Erik Skjoldbjærg says.
On 23 August the next premiere takes place, of the first two episodes of Norsemen 2, this screening too with guests. Other Nordic TV series on the programme include Prisoners from Iceland, created by Nína Dögg Filippusdóttir and Unnur Ösp Stefánsdóttir.
Shame stars to Haugesund
TV dramas will also be in focus during other parts of the festival. On 22 August Shame stars Tarjei Sandvik Moe and Iman Meskini arrive to present the nominees for the Nordic Council Film Prize.
The production of TV series and its importance to the Norwegian film industry is one of the subjects to be discussed on 21 August during the seminar “The Nordic Bridge – How to elevate Nordic content in the digital age». Here Minister of Culture Linda Hofstad Helleland invites you to a Nordic film-political conference in co-operation with Nordisk Film & TV Fond, the Norwegian Film Institute and the Norwegian International Film Festival in Haugesund.
Also the Norwegian International Film Festival’s market New Nordic Films will put TV productions on the programme, with series in pre-production and during production, and also finished series.
The TV series Occupied is based on an idea by Jo Nesbø. Occupied premiered on TV 2 in the fall of 2015 and has become a success story in the American and European markets. In season 2 of the series about a future Norway under Russia, the action has a more international flavour than the first season and is shot in several locations in Europe. The streaming service Viaplay is the main owner of season 2 in co-operation with ARTE France and TV 2. The follow-up will be available on Viaplay before it is aired on TV 2. The series is produced by Gudny Hummelvoll and Marianne Gray for Yellow Bird Norge AS.
The TV series Norsemen is written and directed by Jon Iver Helgaker and Jonas Torgersen. The first season of Norsemen premiered on NRK in the fall of 2016. The series depicts everyday life in the village of “Norheim” around the year of 790. Norsemen too is reaching a large international audience, and both seasons are shot in Norwegian and English. The Norwegian-language version with English subtitles will be screened in Haugesund. Both seasons are mainly shot at Avaldsnes near Haugesund. In season 2 the series creators have decided to make it more international, so this year parts of the series are shot in Scotland, among other places. The TV serie is a coproduction between Viafilm and NRK Humor. Producers are Anders Tangen for Viafilm and Øyvind Thoen for NRK Humor, and like the first season, Norsemen 2 will be aired on NRK.
