Joachim Trier’s Louder Than Bombs will have the honour of closing the main programme of the Norwegian International Film Festival in Haugesund on Wednesday 19. August.
«We are honoured to wish Joachim Trier welcome back to the film festival in Haugesund. His last visit was with Oslo, August 31st, and now he returns with the Palme d’Or nominee Louder Than Bombs, which is so admirably free of conventions that it can best be described as a Joachim Trier in pure form», Programme Director Håkon Skogrand says.
«It is also with great pleasure that the festival has learned that Louder Than Bombs is invited to the film festival in Toronto, in this way continuing its triumphant journey around the prestigious festivals. As far as I know, it has been sold to more than eighty countries already. It is heart-warming to see a Norwegian filmmaker with high artistic ambitions reach the entire world, and that the Norwegian International Film Festival is also a high priority» – Skogrand continues.
Director and screenwriter Joachim Trier will be present at the gala premiere together with co-scriptwriter Eskil Vogt, Gisle Tveito (sound editor), Olivier Bugge Coutté (film editor) and producer Thomas Robsahm.
«It is a great pleasure to be allowed to provide the closing film in Haugesund yet again. We had a marvellous screening of Oslo, August 31st there a few years ago, and I look forward to presenting Louder Than Bombs to a Norwegian audience for the first time» – Joachim Trier says.
About the film
Three years after the death of the photographer Isabelle Reed, in what appeared to be a car accident, her widower Gene has to tell his youngest son Conrad what really happened. He asks his oldest son Jonah to return home to help, but instead he turns against his father. Jonah has his own image of his mother and is unwilling to give it up. With a striking pictorial language and insightful characterisations, Louder Than Bombs tells a powerful story about separation and loyalty in a modern family.
In the main roles we see Gabriel Byrne, Isabelle Huppert, Jesse Eisenberg and Devin Druid. The film is written by Joachim Trier and Eskil Vogt. Jakob Ihre is cinematographer, Gisle Tveito is doing the sound design and Ola Fløttum has composed the music. The film was shot in New York and is a Norwegian/French/Danish co-production. Motlys AS, represented by Thomas Robsahm, is the Norwegian producer and SF Norge AS the distributor.
Louder Than Bombs was screened in the main competition of this year’s film festival in Cannes, as the first Norwegian film since Anja Breien’s The Inheritance in 1979.
The film will be released in Norway 2.. October 2015.
