Haugesund Kunstforening, The Norwegian Film Festival and Haugalandmuseet has the honor of presenting ceramist Arne Åse as the film festival exhibitor in 2020.
Arne Åse (1940) is one of the country’s most acclaimed ceramists. His work in thin walled porcelain in particular has garnered great admiration. As a teacher and educator, Åse has been very influential among ceramists in Norway.
Arne Åse has his roots in Haugesund. As a 17-year-old, in 1957, he saw an exhibition of Picasso at the Haugesund Art Gallery. This art experience would turn out to be crucial for his career choice. Haugesund Art Union was one of the first venues where where Arne Åse displayed his work, as far back as in November 1968. Since then, he has had an international career. This year, Arne Åse turns 80 and can look back on 50 years as a successful artist with a huge variety of artistic expressions. Åse’s work has been purchased by several important museums, in Japan, USA, Israel, Sweden and Finland among others. He lives and works on Nesodden.
The annual Film festival exhibition is the Kunstforening’s most important exhibition, and is created through a collaboration between The Norwegian Film Festival and Haugalandmuseet-Haugesund Billedgalleri.
We’re looking forward to the exhibition in August!
